So I was surfing around the paintball communities and found an small article that stuck in my head, I read it on - http://www.paintballnews.com/magazine/ - I'll type it all out since I can't cut and paste an AFP file.... On a personal note: I like pump paintball that's why I'm posting this.
"Build it and they will come. So says a very memorable line from the "Field of Dreams" movie, in that movie , they build a baseball field, and magically baseball players from days gone by show up to play and relive their younger years. I guess in the movies anything can happen, but when attempted in real life, be prepare for disappointment.
I'm in dire need of getting this off of my chest as this has been eating at me, so bear with me as I spit it out.
Recently the NEPL (New England Paintball League) wanted to start a Pump Division, and a simple question was asked to the MCB, (mcarterbrown.com) paintball forums and community: If we had a pump division, would you participate in it? Sure enough many pages of people proclaiming how fantastic the idea was and how they would show up and play if it was to come to fruition.
Fast forward a few months later, Boston Paintball stayed true to their word. When the ran the pump league for the first time in Event 4, only five teams showed up. Not fantastic, but it was short notice. Another month and a half will be Event 5 and the B.O.N.E. (Best of New England) event.
Event 5 closed out and only three teams were willing to play, not enough to even hold an event, so it was cancelled.
I was extremely disappointed in the pump playing community. To me it wasn't about winning or losing, it was about trying to promote pump play for future players. Here was our chance to give what people have been begging fields to do for years, and when the moment came, no one thought about the bigger picture.
I can only hope that Boston Paintball will try again in spring with a new year, and players flush with enthusiasm and hope and hope that they can promote pump play. If not, don't complain about lack of options. You have no one left to blame."
